A different kind of local knowledge
I'm Rob, a British professional who has lived in the Algarve for several years. I've worked across many different countries and industries over the years and have always found it easy to connect with people from any background.
I know this region well. Not just the obvious places but the layer underneath. The restaurants worth finding, the drives worth taking, the spots most visitors never reach.
I moved to the Algarve five years ago and haven't looked back. The Atlantic coast suits me. Long swims, quiet mornings, knowing which direction to drive when you want to escape the tourist trail.
Two Tides grew from something straightforward. A belief that good company and knowing a place well, offered without agenda, can make an enormous difference to how someone experiences a place or a period of their life in it.
Time spent with someone who knows the area well, is comfortable in any setting, and is entirely focused on making the experience enjoyable.
I swim in the Atlantic most mornings. It's still the best start to a day I've found.
I competed at national level in pools through my teens and university, then moved into lake and ocean swimming in my thirties, including years with an ocean swimming team in Bondi, Australia, and cold water swims in Canada. After 5 years of swimming rough water swells on the South West coast and the calmer waters of the South, I've retuned once again to pool competitions. I now swim for a team here on the Algarve's south coast and after intensive training I came second in both the 100m and 50m breaststroke at this year's Southern Portugal Championships.
Calm mornings on the south coast or rougher days further west near Aljezur, swimming out beyond the break in two to three metre swell, both appeal to me. I've taken people swimming here myself, and for confident swimmers or triathletes, that's something I'm always happy to share.
